La Familia

Early Tuesday Morning…

The following day, Fallon struggled to get out of the bed, but there was nothing that would keep her from meeting the day’s objectives. Besides, with the way Dread was dragging her from under the sheets, she wouldn’t have been able to stay asleep, even if she wanted to.

At five-thirty in the morning, they got on the back of The Demon, Dread’s tricked-out red and black Harley Davidson with the tallboy handlebars and sped through the suburbs until they reached Fallon’s neighborhood. She disembarked the bike, but Dread’s instructions were that she shouldn’t move until he’d scoped out the area and made sure it was safe.

Fallon watched him limp around the perimeter of her small apartment. Every now and then, she’d hear him grunt, but his gait was unwavering. In fact, he seemed deadlier now than he’d ever been before Flavio had tried to take him out.

A few seconds later, he was back. “All clear,” he said. “Let’s go.”

Fallon hurried to open the apartment door, and once they were inside, she slid several locks and bolts in place before heading deeper into the house.

“Get cleaned up,” he told her, positioning himself in front of her open laptop. “The personal shopper will be here any minute.”

“Personal shopper?” Fallon’s eyes opened wide.

“To dress you for the meeting.”

“Dread, I have suits in my closet. I work at a law firm, for crying out loud! Dressing up is what I do every day.”

Dread sat back in the chair and peered at her, not saying a word. They weren’t going to a fucking law firm, and this wasn’t gonna be one of her cut-and-dry, boring-ass board meetings.

Fallon assessed his posture and nodded. “Fine,” she said and then she disappeared.

Dread shook his head and returned his attention to the laptop. Early that morning, he’d called one of his contacts, trying to get information on Flavio. There’d been no information - the motherfucker had been keeping a really low profile and no one had seen him - but then he’d gotten an idea.

He pulled up a search engine and typed in Flavio’s name, curious to see if there had been any news about him over the last couple of weeks. Other than a few articles discussing incidents which had occurred a few years ago – shit that even he had been involved in - there was nothing.

He opened a social media site and typed in Flavio’s handle. There wasn’t much there either, which didn’t surprise him. They were fucking thugs. What the fuck would they look like taking selfies and shit? But as he scrolled through the feed, which showcased a few photos from some of the good times they’d had in bars and strip clubs, he noticed something he’d never seen before.

Why the fuck is Rolisa in the background?

Dread had been in attendance at most of these events and could remember them clearly, but he didn’t remember ever seeing Rolisa there.

He sat back and rubbed his chin.

Then he went back to the computer and typed in Rolisa’s handle.
